Turtle Enclosure, Sydney Aquarium, Darling Harbour NSW

bokor architecture + interiors were engaged by Merlin Entertainment, to undertake the architectural works for the refurbishment of the existing Great Barrier Reef exhibit and associated aquaria located at the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium. The brief outlined the need to enhance the visitor experience of being at the Great Barrier Reef through new theming and visual effects within the exhibit. Working closely with Linked Project Management, Kay Elliott and the team at Evolve Constructions, bokor architecture + interiors were able to successfully implement Sydney Aquarium’s newest attraction, combining specialty knowledge in theming, sand and tube filtration, access equipment, touch screen control automation and tank management systems.

 

The Day and Night on the Reef interactive experience opened in late November 2018, showcasing the first rescue turtle, Myrtle in her new home. Sea Life curators plan to slowly integrate more of Myrtle’s friends into the sanctuary over the next few months.
